Dear Idris: Please Don't Quit Your Day Job

I'm feeling some type of way about this. Idris just took up kickboxing a couple of months ago and he's already training for his first professional fight against a seasoned kickboxer!

What are you thinking, boo?

For those of you who haven't heard, yesterday Idris announced a new documentary series called "Idris Elba: Fighter" that will follow his kickboxing training journey for a year.  Idris will travel the the kickboxing, and will participate in his first no-holds-barred competition!

No holds barred????  Dude, you know the other guy is going to be seriously jealous of you and will pull out all kind of tricks to try to blemish your beautiful face and body.

But, alas, if you love it I love it. I will be there to watch and support you 100%.

Good luck on your kickboxing journey!

Whose Your Favorite Brit?

Idris is up against two other British actors, Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Tim Hiddleston (The Night Manager), for Best Leading Actor at the Emmy's in September.  I'm sure the these other two gentlemen are deserving of the award, but they just don't stand a chance against the star of Luther!

The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel on Sept 18, 2016.

Why Idris Wasn't Cast in Django

In an interview with the UK's Sun, while plugging the film across the pond, Quentin Tarantino stated, while, as we already know, Idris Elba was one of the actors he looked at for the lead role eventually played by Jamie Foxx, "he never stood a chance of getting the part," because "he’s British," Tarantino said.

“Yeah, Idris is British and this is an American story. I think a problem with a lot of movies that deal with this issue is they cast British actors to play the Southerners and it goes a long way to distancing the movie. They put on their gargoyle masks and they do their phoney accents and you are not telling an American story any more. They are just making hay of it, whether it be James Mason in Mandingo or Michael Caine in Hurry Sundown, they get British actors to do this."

The first thing that I thought was, if he never really stood a chance of getting the part, why even look at him for the part in the first place...?

Says Quentin, “Leo is not from the South, but pretty much every other white actor in the movie is from the South. And most of the black actors are from the South. And I’m from the South.”

The other actors Tarantino looked at for the part were Chris Tucker, Terrence Howard, Michael K. Williams, and Tyrese.

Idris Elba Reveals 'The Wire' Secrets: 'We Smoked Weed, Did Strip Clubs'

Life on set was wild!

Idris Elba has revealed life working on cult crime epic The Wire was pretty laid back - if the cameras weren't rolling, the weed definitely was.

Elba, who played iconic drug dealer/businessman Russell "Stringer" Bell has joined the rest of the cast and crew of the show in celebrating the show's ten year anniversary and remembering life on set.
Speaking to Maxim magazine, the British star recalled how the actors passed time during breaks between filming on location in Baltimore, Maryland, admitting: "We smoked a lot of good weed, did a lot of strip clubs. A lot of that."

Michael B. Jordan, who played Wallace, also recalls being taken to strip clubs by Elba, and co-stars Wendell Pierce (William 'Bunk' Moreland) and Clarke Peters (Lester Freamon) - despite only being 14 at the time.  "I kind of grew up around Idris and Wendell and Clarke and everybody. I would just tag along, going to strip clubs," he told the magazine, adding: "I became a man in Baltimore with those guys."

I guess I can believe Idris smoked a blunt or two on the Wire set.  When you're high, you get real motivated to do stuff (or so I've heard), and you can do it just as well as when you're sober.  But I definitely don't believe the part about the strip clubs...Idris only has eyes for me. I'll strip for you Boo!
